The Neil Simon comedy follows the format of his successful play, Plaza Suite, where the action is set in a hotel room involving four different stories. It's a humorous confection divided into four parts: Visitor from New York, Visitor from Philadelphia, Visitor from London and Visitors from Chicago. |
In the “Visitor from New York” scene, a magazine writer, Hannah Warren (Alisa Bochnowski) is visited by her ex-husband, William (Kyle Pucalik) before going home. The question with whom should their daughter spend the next six months? |
The “Visitor from Philadelphia” concerns a wife, Millie (Stephanie Sepiol) who arrives at the hotel suite before her husband, Marvin (Hunter Muckel), can get rid of the drunken girl, Candi (Kayle Goldsmith) who unknown to him stayed in his room overnight after a party. Tony Campana also appears as the deadpan butler. |
“Visitor from London” concerns a British film star, Diana (Hannah Korowski) on her way to the Academy Award ceremonies. She returns without an Oscar and with a husband, Mort (Adam Goodwin), whose eccentricities will be no comfort tonight. |
The “Visitors from Chicago” two couples; Stu and Gert Franklyn (Doug Johnson and Ali Blanchard) and Mort and Beth Hollander (Paul Bainbridge and Jelena Grozdanich) are winding up a vacation they should not have shared. The Production and Directing Staff include: Larry A Brechner, Producer/Director; Dr. Timothy Bartlett Music/Orchestra Director; and Carol Lynn Brechner, Assistant Director. The Munster Theatre Company production of Once Upon A Mattress will feature an ensemble of cast nearly thirty veterans and newcomers in its version. |
If you thought you knew the story of "The Princess and The Pea," you may be in for a walloping surprise! Queen Aggravain (Danielle Tromouliaris) has set impossible standards to prevent any princess from qualifying as a bride for her son Prince Dauntless the Drab (Mike Konopasek). |
No one in the kingdom can marry until Prince Dauntless finds a bride so everyone in the kingdom is anxious for a princess to succeed. Especially Lady Larken (Molly White) whose love for Sir Harry (Clarke Remmers) has provided a rather compelling reason that she quickly reach the bridal altar because she is pregnant. |
After twelve Princesses failed these impossible tests, Sir Harry returns with an ambitious 13th candidate, Princess Winnifred the Wobegon of the Swamps (Katie Taylor) actually swims the moat to reach the castle. |
A visiting Minstrel (Jenny Eskander) retells the actual story of The Princess and the Pea, but actually becomes involved in the plight of Lady Larken, who after a fight with Sir Harry contemplates leaving the Kingdom. |
The court comedy is sustained by the shenanigans of the Minstrel (Jenny Eskander), the Wizard (Pat Pohrte) and the Jester (Doug Johnson) adds to the manipulations to avoid the queen’s wrath.
King Seximus (Joel Schneider) cannot speak because of a magical curse, but communicates through hilarious pantomimes that are especially showcased in the song, “Man to Man,” where he has to explain the facts of life to his son Dauntless. |
Once Upon a Mattress opened in November of 1959 on Broadway starring Carol Burnett as Winnifred and ran for over 240 performances. It also featured the Broadway debut of composer Mary Rodgers, daughter of Richard Rodgers. |
A 1996 Broadway revival cast Sarah Jessica Parker as Winnifred and Jane Krakowski as Lady Larken. It has been adapted for television three times, first in 1964 and later in a modified version in 1972 with Burnett reprising her role as Winnifred. Stella Devine (Alyssa Larimer) is the aging star of the popular Ritz Theatre. She and her fellow company of actors are preparing for the epic play "Civil War Darlin's," directed by Colin (Justin Newman) and written by the theater's acclaimed playwright in residence, Micole (Tieg Alexander), who has written starring roles for Stella for 20 years. |
Ginger (Danielle
Troumouliaris), a "sweet Southern belle" from
Georgia, visits a rehearsal pretending to be a struggling waitress who is
trying to raise money to get back home. Ginger cons her way into the part
written for the famous star. |
Meanwhile, Billy (Adam Bobeck), disguised as a visiting foreigner Cortez, is actually an unscrupulous tabloid newspaper reporter looking for a scoop, with his girlfriend Loeta (Stephanie Sepiol). They hope to catch Stella throwing a tyrannical fit so they can sensationalize her in a national tabloid. But instead they uncover Ginger's evil ploy and set out to expose her diabolical scheme to oust Stella. |
Throw in set of twins played by the same person, Brad and Chad (Jordan Huckaby); Trevor (Russell Gonzalez), a bad actor (with a bad toupee) who thinks he really is fighting the Civil War; Dash Tippet (Mike Konopasek) the handsome, self-absorbed leading man; Lori (Hannah Kurkowski) the a dim-witted beauty of the stage; Linda (Alyssa Spungen) her overbearing stage mother, plus a host of extras and you have a fun, delightful backstage comedy that's different than anything you've ever seen before! |
