The Munster Theatre Company (the Performing Arts Department of Munster High School) is pleased to present
James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim's fractured musical fairy tale

Into The Woods
which features an ambivalent Cinderella?
A blood-thirsty Little Red Ridinghood?
A Prince Charming with a roving eye?
A Witch...who raps?
They're all among the cockeyed characters found
in this lively irreverent fantasy in the style of The Princess Bride.

Into The Woods cast

When a Baker (Christian Fary) and his Wife (Megan Miller) learn they've been cursed with childlessness by the Witch (Alexa Johnson) next door, they embark on a quest for the special objects required to break the spell, swindling, lying to and stealing from Cinderella (Colleen Kifer), Little Red (Helena Jancosek), Rapunzel (Maddie 'Odea), and Jack (Michael Peters) - the one who climbed the beanstalk.

The Baker and his Wife move through their stories while pursuing their goal of having a child,  and agree to find the ingredients to help the Witch reverse a spell which her mother has laid on her, keeping her old and ugly.

Into The Woods cast

Little Red Ridinghood goes to Granny's (Rachel Borgo) after getting bread and sweets from the Baker and his Wife house.  She is met by by the Wolf (Tim Wittkamp), who thinks of his next meal.

One of the objects to reverse the spell is a "Cape As Red As Blood," which the Baker gets from Little Red Riding Hood in exchange for freeing her and Granny from the Wolf.

 Into The Woods c ast

Cinderella goes to the Ball and eventually captures the heart of Prince Charming (Calvin Sanders).

The Baker's Wife  gets "The Slipper As
Pure As Gold" from Cinderella.

Into The Woods cast

With nearly no money or food to eat, Jack's Mother (Kendall Goldberg) forces him to take his beloved cow to market to sell.

Finding "A Cow As White As Milk," the Baker buys it from Jack in exchange for the fateful magic beans.

Jack returns home with the beans instead of the money, and his mother tosses them outside.

Into The Woods cast

As the Baker and his Wife continue the search for the items to reverse the spell, they seemingly have three of the four items when the cow wanders off from the Baker's Wife, leaving them only with two.

Into The Woods cast

Later, Jack  discovers the beans he had really were magic, and climbs the Beanstalk from those beans, finding a land of Giants and Gold.

Little Red does not believe Jack's tale of treasure and giants, and he once again climbs the bean stalk to talk even more of the giant's golden possessions.

With everyone's wish is granted at the end of Act One, the characters have achieved their goal of living "Happily Ever After."

Into The Woods cast

In Act Two, all the characters must deal with what happens AFTER "Happily Ever After".

As they face a genuine threat to their community, they realize that all actions have consequences, and their lives are inescapably interdependent, but also that that interdependence is their greatest strength.

Into The Woods cast

Into The Woods deals with the consequences that traditional fairy tales conveniently ignore like:

What does one do with a dead Giant in the back yard?
Does marrying a Prince really lead to a happy and fulfilling life?
Is carving up the wolf the solution?
                Is the Giant always wrong?

What begins a lively irreverent fantasy in the style of "The Princess Bride" becomes a moving lesson about community responsibility and the stories we tell our children.

Into the Woods will features an ensemble cast including: Rapunzel Princes (Steven Caraher),  Cinderella’s Stepmother (London Borom), the Stepsisters (Lisa Arndt & Katie Gajewski), a Mysterious Man (Josh Roman), a Narrator (Ben Nichols) who is unwillingly pulled into the storyline by the characters, a Chief Steward (Lester Blumberg), and featuring Drew Adams, Rohan Chatterjee, Emmy Georges, Michael Han, Thomas Speranza, and Omnya Zamen.

Featuring  music from composer Stephen Sondheim, with a book by James Lapine, Into The Woods will enchant audiences.  It run Thursday, November 17; Friday, November 18; Saturday, November 19 at 7pm, and Sunday, November 20 at 2pm in Munster Auditorium. Adult tickets are $7 (senior and student tickets $5).  Tickets are available at the Auditorium Box Office on performance nights or in advance by calling: (219) 836-2235, by email at MunAud Box Office.

Stage Door

Produced by Dr Larry A Brechner, this full-length, student-directed production will feature the solo directing debut of Lisa Arndt, assisted by Helena Jancosek and will feature a large cast of 30 MTC veterans and newcomers.

Stage Door concerns a group of young girls who have come to 1930’s New York to study acting and find jobs.

"Stage Door" cast

The scene is Mrs. Orcutt's (Kendall Goldberg) boarding house, The Footlight Club, where the hopes and ambitions of sixteen young women are revealed in scenes of entertaining comedy.

Contrast in the plot ranges from the cases of the girl without talent, and the elderly actress whose days are over, to the humor offered by Judith (Katie Gajewski),   and young Keith Burgess (Steven Caraher), the playwright who "goes Hollywood."

"Stage Door" cast

The central plot has to do with courageous Terry Randall (Rachel Borgo), who fights against discouragement to a position in the theater where we are sure she will conquer.  One of her fellow aspirants gives up in despair, one gets married, and one goes into pictures, but Terry, with the help of idealistic David Kingsley (Calvin Sanders), sticks to her guns.

"Stage Door" cast

Jean Maitland (Megan Miller), another aloof member of the Footlight Club, who feels she is a cut above all the other girls, and is just waiting to be discovered as a star.

Other comedy is offered by Mattie, the maid (Colleen Kifer); Frank her husband; a few young men callers, and a movie magnate.
